CD&R’s Operating Partner Vindi Banga served as a discussion leader at the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Summit, where he outlined the long-term value creation case for engagement on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
Taking place in the context of the United Nations General Assembly, the World Economic Forum’s fourth and, for the first time, fully virtual Sustainable Development Impact Summit convened leaders from government, business, international organizations and civil society along with a diverse group of experts and innovators to initiate, accelerate and scale-up entrepreneurial solutions to tackle climate change and advance sustainable development.
“This is an important moment for ESG and we are enthusiastic about the constructive role that private capital can play to achieve a world that is healthier, more just, and more sustainable,” Mr. Banga said. “CD&R’s investment strategy is predicated on creating value by building stronger, more profitable businesses. Our approach to ESG, underpinned by the firm’s Operating Partners and Advisors to CD&R Funds who have led ESG-related initiatives in their prior positions at major global enterprises, supports our value creation model by enhancing investment decision-making and post-acquisition value creation.”
Mr. Banga joined CD&R as an Operating Partner in 2010, after a 33-year career at Unilever where, as executive board member and president of Global Foods, Home & Personal Care businesses, he led Unilever's sustainability agenda.
During the conference session, ‘Implementing ESG for Corporate Governance’, Mr. Banga led discussions aimed at raising awareness of the importance of continued progress on ESG reporting, accelerating advocacy for a more coherent measurement ecosystem, and elevating the dialogue around the role of corporate boards in stakeholder capitalism.
